Senior Software Engineer
Hello!
At Factorial, were looking for a Senior Software Engineer with a broad experience programming in Ruby on Rails to join our Back Office Team within the Platform Domain.
The Engineering team at large
At Factorial, we have a team of over 150 full-stack developers. We look for curious, proactive people with good soft and communication skills. The last one is the key in a distributed company.
Our stack in Ruby on Rails and React, since its a team of new creation well need you to have previously worked with Ruby.
The Role
As a Senior Engineer at Factorial, youll be part of a team of 150+ product developers. We look for talented people who are curious, proactive, and have great communication skills. People who are at the forefront of developing tools that help teams become the best versions of themselves.
Youll work in a multicultural, English-speaking environment where your technical acumen, creative problem-solving abilities, and passion for user-centric products will directly contribute to our mission of improving HR processes for SMEs worldwide. Its your choice to work from home, in our Barcelona offices, or mixing both.
The team will be in charge of our BackOffice, the internal product used across the company that is key to manage our core operations and provide the best service to our end users.

Your first steps in Factorial:
Youll start with a 2 weeks onboarding period, where you will:
- Read a lot: Learn about Factorial, our product, our team, and our clients.
- Learn a lot: Pair with each team member at least once, to understand what they are working on.
- Code a lot: Solve low-stake bug tickets or quick wins.
- Fail a lot: We work with ephemeral development environments with almost zero configuration so you can start coding fast. And failing, going back, retrying... We understand this is part of the path, so, we will encourage you to be brave!
- Talk a lot: Be fully integrated into the teams rituals from day one.
After your onboarding, your day-by-day work will look like the following:
- You will be a product engineer, taking ownership of big initiatives, and being interested in the outcome, not just the output. About the outcome, youll also work with your team members to establish goals and plan a quarterly roadmap, putting special attention to the technical needs of our domain.
- A Senior Engineer at Factorial influences requirements definition and is autonomous in delivering a polished solution that matches those. You participate in the teams decision through Requests For Comments (RFCs) that you write yourself or read others.
- You will be involved in customer calls to learn about their pains needs.
- You will review code daily and get feedback on your code at every pull request, from all team members, including juniors.
- You will learn from the entire team, both on technical topics (performance, architecture...) and core skills, in an environment driven by engineering quality. You will also mentor junior team members and help them learn from your experience.

- A second conversation with the teams engineering manager. This is about making sure we can work together. Here you will have a conversation about the team, their needs, your profile and how can you complement it. Expect to have a mix of a human and technical conversation.
- A tech interview with three Factorial engineers: thats a conversation about technology, not an exam or a code review. Well ask you to send us a piece of code youve written recently and are happy with, to use as a basis for the conversation. If you dont have anything well share some specifications for you to build, but the focus will be on how you think, not the lines you code.
- One last coffee-chat with our CTO, where you can get all the answers about Factorials culture, business vision, or anything else that interests you.
- And thats it! Feel free to request any other conversation you want, with team members or to address specific concerns at any time during the process.
