Cloud Architect
Essential Roles Responsibilities

Design and deploy Azure and Private Cloud solutions that meet business requirements for scalability, reliability, security, and compliance
Collaborate with customers to understand business and regulatory requirements and provide guidance on leveraging Azure and Private Cloud platforms
Configure, manage, and optimise Azure services and private cloud platforms, including compute, storage, networking, and security
Create and maintain high quality documentation for cloud and hybrid infrastructure solutions
Develop and implement migration and modernisation plans for Azure and Private Cloud environments
Stay up to date with Azure and private cloud technology trends and provide expert guidance to clients
Identify opportunities to modernise, optimise, and standardise existing customer environments
Collaborate with other engineers to improve tools, automation, processes, and working practices
Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers within the team
Ensure smooth service transition from technical delivery into in life managed support
Clearly articulate design decisions to both technical and non technical stakeholders

Financial Services Regulatory Compliance

Ensure all cloud engineering activities comply with financial services regulations and frameworks (e.g. FCA, PRA, DORA, ISO 27001, SOC)
Implement and enforce security controls for data protection, GDPR, PII, and operational resilience
Support audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews in collaboration with Quality, Security, and Compliance teams
Maintain awareness of evolving financial sector regulations and embed compliance requirements into solution design
Ensure Azure and Private Cloud operations support regulatory reporting, business continuity, and audit obligations

Governance Reporting

Produce and present infrastructure reports, dashboards, and performance summaries for internal and customer stakeholders
Track and manage technical risks, issues, and actions, ensuring audit ready documentation
Support governance activities including incident response, vulnerability management, and access control reviews
Ensure cloud and private cloud processes are documented, versioned, and maintained in line with governance standards
Support contract renewals and service scope changes from a cloud engineering perspective

Critical Competencies - Technical Fit

Essential:

Proven experience designing, deploying, and managing Azure and Private Cloud infrastructure solutions
Strong understanding of Azure services and hybrid/private cloud architectures
Strong understanding of VMware and VMware Cloud Foundation environment
Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools, including:

Terraform
Azure DevOps
PowerShell
ARM templates
Python

Strong knowledge of networking concepts and technologies (VPN, DNS, load balancing, firewalls)
Strong knowledge of backup technologies such as Veeam and Rubrik
Solid understanding of security concepts and best practices in Azure and VMware-based cloud environments
Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills in complex hybrid environments
Ability to translate business requirements into high and low level technical designs
Experience with configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible, Puppet)
Experience working with Windows and Linux environments
Fluent written and spoken English is essential. The role requires the ability to produce audit ready documentation and communicate confidently with senior and executive level stakeholders

Desirable:

Experience with container platforms (AKS, Kubernetes, Docker)
Experience supporting regulated or financial services customers
Familiarity with hybrid networking and data centre integration patterns
